The Bible is the record of the revelation of God to man, through prophets and Jesus Christ.
It is composed of 66 books written by about 40 persons
The Old Testament was first written in Hebrew language.
The first writer of the Bible was Moses.
The Bible gets its name from a Greek word Biblia which means, "books".
The Bible is the first book
A few years after Christ, the books of the New Testament were written by the Apostles and others in Greek.
The first written books of the New Testament were some letters of St. Paul.
They were all written in scrolls made of Papyrus.
Manuscripts made in Papyrus are called "Codex".
The New Testament was written in Greek except the Gospel of St. Mathew.
By the second AD, New Testament books were translated into Syriac.
Second translation was into Latin.
It was the fourteenth century that the complete English Bible was made.
The Malayalam Bible is published by the Bible Society and that translation is based on King James Version.
There are 66 books, 39 Old Testament and 27 New Testament.
In addition to this there are 7 books under the name Apocrypha books. Apocrypha means books and also "hidden". The Jews did not approve these books as scriptures.
Roman Catholic Church decided to add Apocrypha books with the Bible. These books are also accepted by our Church as part of the Bible.
Books are recognized by the church are known as Canonical books.
Today we know that the teachings and commandments of Christ are found in the Bible. So we consider the Bible as scriptures and respect it.
