Galatians 5:16-26

 

The acts of sinful nature:

  • Sexual immorality

Immoral - Not moral; implies a positive and active opposition to what is moral and may designate whatever is discordant with accepted ethical principles or the dictates of conscience or weakened use.

  • Impurity and debauchery

Impurity - Not pure (Lewd, Unchaste); Containing something unclean.
Debauchery - Extreme indulgence in sensuality; orgies; seduction from virtue of duties.

  • Idolatry and witchcraft

Idolatry - The worship of a physical object as a God; Immoderate attachment or devotion to something.

  • Hatred
  • Discord - Lack of agreement or harmony (as between persons, things or ideas); Active quarreling or conflict resulting from discord among persons or factions: STRIFE
  • Jealousy - Intolerant of rivalry or unfaithfulness; Hostile toward a rival or one believed to enjoy an advantage; Vigilant in guarding a possession; Distrustfully watchful; Suspicious
  • Fits of rage
  • Selfish ambition
  • Dissensions - Disagreement; Partisan and continuous quarreling.
  • Factions and envy

Faction - Clique; Party spirit especially when marked by dissension
Envy - Malice; Painful or resentful awareness of an advantage enjoyed by another joined with a desire to posses the same advantage

  • Drunkenness
  • Orgies

The Fruit of the Spirit:

  • Love
  • Joy
  • Peace
  • Patience
  • Kindness
  • Goodness
  • Faithfulness
  • Gentleness
  • and Self-control

What are some areas of life where you prefer quick rather than delayed gratification?

  • finances (spending)
  • health (including eating)
  • correcting other people
  • prayer
  • worship
  • career
  • friendships
  • other

How might life change for the better if you develop discipline in those areas?
