COMPETITION GUIDELINES

JULY 11th ACTIVITIES

(July 4th is the deadline to give names for the July 11th competitions)

1.                        SONG( solo):

·        Only Christian Songs are allowed.

·        No background music.

·        2 stanzas only.

JUDGING CRITERIA:

·        Scoring shall be based on CONTENT, VOICE, TUNE, and PRESENTATION.

SONG COMPETITION IS OPEN TO All CLASSES:

Pre-school, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd , Sophomore, Junior, Intermediate and Senior 

 

2.  BIBLE VERSE FIND:         

JUDGING CRITERIA:

This competition is based on the speed and accuracy in which a student can find a given Bible verse.  The name of the book, chapter and verse number will be announced.  All candidates will start finding the verse at the same time.  The first person to find and read the verse will get one point.  The person who finds the most verse will be the winner.  For the purpose of uniformity use NIV (New International Version) Bible only for the competition.

 BIBLE VERSE FIND IS OPEN TO THE FOLLOWING CLASSES:

·        3rd Grade

·        Sophomore

3.  BIBLE QUIZ: 

JUDGING CRITERIA:

·        The candidates compete in groups of two or three.

·        Five rounds of questions to each team.  

·        One point for each correct answer. 

·        Team with highest score will be awarded first place. 

Topics for the Bible quiz competition will be announced later.

BIBLE QUIZ COMPETITION IS OPEN TO THE FOLLOWING CLASSES:

·         Junior, Intermediate and Senior classes combined.

(July 11th is the deadline to give names for the July 12th competitions) 

1.                        SPEECH:

Two topics will be given to each class by their Sunday School teacher at least one week prior to the competition.  One of the given two topics will be selected by the judges on the day of the competition.  The maximum time limit is three minutes.

JUDGING CRITERIA

·        Content, eye contact with audience and presentation/delivery

SPEECH COMPETITION IS OPEN TO THE FOLLOWING CLASSES

·        Sophomore class

TOPICS:      1. The Power of Prayer  

           2. How to fight temptations

·       Junior Class

TOPICS:      1. "I am the Light of the World" (John 9:5)

                    2. Fruits of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22).  Which one best describe you and
                         why?

·       Intermediate

TOPICS:     1. If you wanted to help strengthen our church, what would you do?

                    2. Imagine you are Mary and Angel Gabriel came before you and delivered the news that you were to bear the Son of God.  How would you feel?  What challenges would you face?  How did Mary overcome them?

 

    ·       Senior class

     TOPICS:    1.  Based on your Orthodox Sunday School instruction, what advice would  you give to a friend about prayer to God?

         2. Are you ready for Jesus' second coming, and how are you preparing for it?

2.  TALENT SHOW ( Solo):

 (song/dance/Bible reading are not allowed)

Examples of talent show activities include (but are not limited to)

·        Fancy dress

·        Mono act

·        Puppet show

·        Instrumental music

·        Mimicry

·        Story telling etc. 

JUDGING CRITERIA:

·        Overall presentation

·        2 Minutes Maximum

TALENT SHOW COMPETITION IS OPEN TO THE FOLLOWING CLASSES

·        Pre-school and Kindergarten combined

·        1st and 2nd grades combined

·        3rd and Sophomore combined

·        Junior

3.  GROUP SONG: 

·        Maximum three minutes

·        Only songs for the Holy Qurbana service can be used for this category (Ex.  Anpudayone, yachikkendum, rakshakanuracheythan—etc. and songs used for the morning service).  Please contact the coordinators if you have any further questions.

·        Songs may be in English or Malayalam.

·        A group should have a minimum of two and maximum of four students.

·        Back ground music is not allowed.

JUDGING CRITERIA

·        Tune, accuracy of lyrics, participation from each member of the group, voice and overall presentation.

GROUP SONG COMPETITION IS OPEN TO THE FOLLOWING CLASSES 

CATEGORY 1:  Two to four students from any of the following classes (1st, 2nd, 3rd and Sophomore combined). 

(All the group members do not have to be from the same class.)

·        1st grade

·        2nd grade

·        3rd grade 

·        Sophomore

CATEGORY 2:  Two to four students from any of the following classes (Junior, Intermediate and Senior combined). 

(All the group members do not have to be from the same class.)

·        Junior

·        Intermediate

     ·       Senior
