Vision

Matthew 19: 16-30

  1. What vision did Jesus put before the rich young man?
  2. What possibilities did Jesus see beneath the young man’s superficial qualities?
  3. In verse 22, the man walked away from Jesus in sadness. How was his sadness a result of his lack of vision?
  4. To what problem in your life does verse 26 speak right now?
  5. How would you explain the difference between human scheming and being a visionary for God?
  6. Would you say that Peter’s comment in verse 27 is an example of vision or selfishness? Explain
  7. In the case of the young man and of the disciples, what was the cost of having vision?

Discussion

  1. Would you say you usually focus on problems or on solutions? Explain
  2. When you think of being visionary, how do you react?
    • It takes too much energy.
    • I’m too busy taking care of the here and now.
    • It’s exciting to me because it means hope.
    • I’m not an idea person.
    • I have lots of vision, but the people around me don’t.

  3. When have you benefited from someone else’s vision?
  • It takes too much energy.
  • I’m too busy taking care of the here and now.
  • It’s exciting to me because it means hope.
  • I’m not an idea person.
  • I have lots of vision, but the people around me don’t.

Commit

  • What vision of new possibilities has God put into your heart and mind?
  • What would help you clarify your vision?

Prayerfully choose a path and go ahead, trusting the Lord to open or close doors as you follow the vision he has given you.
